Afternoon Tea at Barnsdale Lodge, Rutland
On 31st May 2018 by HelenThis post is long overdue! In March, as part of mum’s birthday celebrations, I took her and some friends up to Rutland to a place mum loves called Barnsdale Lodge. Not far from Rutland Water the Lodge is a beautifully converted farm building with elegant interior and split almost into three sections. There’s a garden room, all light and bright with fairy lights on the ceiling, there’s a bar area and a formal restaurant filled with art.
I judge places on afternoon tea now I’m coeliac and this place didn’t disappoint. I obviously got a whole afternoon tea stand to myself (coeliac disease has to have some perks) whilst the others all shared between two. I had ham, egg, salmon and beef sandwiches. I had quite possibly the best gluten free scones which came with cream, jam and homemade lemon curd if you fancied something different. The cakes included gluten free brownie, golden syrup cake (or that’s what it tasted like) and a panna cotta with an Earl Grey topping.
The ‘normal’ afternoon tea had the same sandwiches but their cakes included Victoria sponge, rhubarb cake, and cherry palmiers. It looked equally as delicious as mine!
After the tea we sang happy birthday to mum with another cake which we were all too full to eat and then went for a couple of drinks before heading home.
Such a great day with great friends and I would highly recommend this place to everyone!
