Exploring Sydney
On 23rd October 2016 by HelenThis week has been a much better week. After feeling really unwell at the beginning of the week with a nasty cold/flu I managed to pick myself up and do a bit more exploring.
I went to the Chinese Garden of Friendship at the beginning of the week. A really small garden in Darling Harbour built for the Chinese community. It only took about an hour to go around. Last time I was in Sydney I didn’t have the chance to go so I was really happy to have gone this time.
The following day me and my room mates went for a walk around the Botanic Gardens the Opera House, around Circular Quay and then to The Rocks. It was another glorious and sunny day!
This Friday I managed to get back to Shelly beach and Manly with my room mates. We took the ferry across which takes about half and hour. It was 28 degrees and sunny it was so lovely! However around 2:30pm a massive cloud came over the beach, the temperature dropped and I swear you have never seen a beach clear so quickly. It’s tucked in a little cove and your able to snorkel there as it is a conservation area. It’s surrounded by beautiful beach houses and a lovely cafe which sells really good coffee but their gluten free options are limited so have to say I was pretty hungry for most of the day.
Saturday night was so much fun! I went to Darling Harbour with friends and we had dinner then watched the fireworks. The fireworks happen every week and they are so spectacular (clearly everyone pays too much council tax here)!
Sunday started with a trip to the GP and I cannot recommend the Australian health care system enough. It puts the UK to shame. I walked straight in had an appointment within 10 minutes had a prescription written which I won’t need to use for a few weeks and was out of there! My friend Holly and I then went back to the Botanic Gardens and had lunch at the Opera Bar (it’s the last time I eat out as it’s getting expensive). We went to The Rocks and found the most amazing street market which is there every week – there were so many different stalls and everything was handmade. In the evening we went to noodle street market which has been running for a couple of weeks and is full of so many different stalls from all over Asia. There were traditional street dragons dances and it had a really fun atmosphere.
In terms of a hostel update: after having the most epic dorm full of amazing room mates they have all either left to go on their travels, gone back to the UK or have had to change hostel. Sad to say they were replaced by 3 of the worst kind of English men ever! Thank god they were only there for 24 hours but I have never seen a room be so destructed in that time! Now fingers crossed the new room mates for the next week will be friendly and respectful!
