Leaving Coogee!
On 17th January 2017 by HelenOh my gosh I can’t believe the time has come already to leave Coogee and move back to the city. I have hand-on-heart loved every single second of living here. The house I was in and my room may not be beautiful but I have lived with the best people a girl could ask for and have made new friends. The area of Coogee itself has felt like my home. It has such a buzz about it. The cafes are always full, there are always people on the beach (obviously), there’s such a wide variety of groups here be it the Tai Chi group or the fitness groups, the clubbies having a brunch meeting, or the sports team which trains at the local cricket ground every Saturday morning with the coach who has very elaborate hand gestures which just look hilarious from a distance though I am sure what he says makes perfect sense. I could honestly stay here and people watch forever.
I’m moving back to the city because my house contract here has come to an end and I couldn’t find anywhere at the same price or cheaper that I liked. I’m also still pretty strapped for cash so I am actually moving back to a hostel and am going to be doing some work for accommodation around my day job in order for me to seriously save so I can do some more travelling later in the year.
Anyone travelling to Aus and looking for rentals I would totally recommend Coogee. It offers so much. Just be warned though like everywhere in this city when looking for rooms to rent between end of November to beginning of February prices spike for summer. I was lucky to be paying $255 a week but I have seen property as much as $520 per week.
Here are my top 5 places to go and things to do in Coogee:
1 – THE COSTAL WALK is my favourite thing to do here. Be it from Coogee to Bondi or Coogee to Maroubra it’s simply beautiful. Either direction you choose is two completely different walks. Walking towards Bondi it is simply a stereotype of what you would expect of Australia with its stunning beaches. Walk towards Maroubra and it’s a lot more low key, a slightly more residential walk, a little bit more ‘rugged’ and a bit more ‘grassy’ (sorry for the poor description I can’t quite find the words hoping the pictures will help).
2 – THE BEACH is so pretty. A mid sized beach which is always packed. There’s grass areas and BBQs. There’s always a great busker too. Unfortunately due to the Christmas chaos alcohol has been completely banned on the beach and grass areas but prior to this you could drink.
3 – COCOBLISS is the most amazing place to eat. We know I love and Acai bowl and this place absolutely rocks it. It has only recently opened but you now you spend too much time there when the staff start knowing your name and order (oops). They serve 14 different types of bowls from traditional Acai topped with banana, strawberry and apple to a charcoal bowl topped with yoghurt. They do great coffee and the fresh juices are amazing! Grab a loyalty card there and you can eventually get your free smoothly, coffee or Acai bowl. I will miss this place so much but will make every effort to get back here!
4 – THE PAVILION. It would not be Coogee without The Pavilion. I have only been there a couple of times but I loved it. The music was great, it has such a nice atmosphere and the drinks were well priced.
5 – GELATISSIMO is found everywhere in Sydney but myself and housemate Lucy have formed a fond attachment to this store. Thank God the local supermarket has prints on the back of the receipts for buy one get one free. The ice cream is simply the best and they have dairy free and gluten free options also so it literally caters for everyone. I’m actually very happy when I go back to the city the nearest one from me is about a 30 minute walk – here and CocoBliss is probably why I am poor.
(No picture always eaten too quickly!)
Everyone needs to visit this area! Coogee you are simply awesome and I can’t wait to come back and visit!
