Sydney Exploring Week Two
On 30th October 2016 by HelenThis week has been a really chilled out week. I started the week by going to Watson Bay with friends. We took the ferry and it was so quick! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this place but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s basically a millionaires playground (can’t imagine why I liked it?)! As you approach on the boat all you can see is the most amazing beach houses and restaurants and the bay has private boats scattered everywhere! The beach itself isn’t actually very big but is long and narrow. After sitting at the beach we went for a walk to explore. There’s a stunning cliff top walk and the views are amazing. However it turns out it is quite a big suicide spot and there were police everywhere and CCTV at every point one may wish to jump! However the views were awesome and you could see across to Manly. I have to say though I need to get used to the heat here. It’s very dry and the sun is so much stronger than anything I have experienced before. I felt quite dizzy and light headed and we had to go and find some shade which was nice as we sat in the park band stand. My friend Charlie and I kind of had a freak out as we saw the biggest spider on our walk, subsequently meaning that all surfaces for the rest of the day needed to be checked thoroughly for 8 legged beasts.
Tuesday I had to myself. I had to run a few errands in the city before I headed to my favourite spot the Botanic Gardens to read my book. The sun was shining and it was a glorious day. However the lovely quiet afternoon I thought I would have was kind of interrupted by a creepy old Spanish guy basically invading my space (because 30 hecters of land isn’t big enough to go sit by yourself!!) and asking me to be a flat mate. As soon as he walked off after talking at me for 20 minutes I grabbed my stuff and walked quickly in the opposite direction. In the evening myself and a few others went to the hostel bar where there was a wildlife talk and I held a snake and a crocodile – as you do! Basically to cut a long story short if you see a snake out and about stand still and let it pass, anything else…RUN!
Wednesday I went on the guided walk run by our hostel from Coogee beach to Bondi. It was the most stunning coastal walk and we got to see 7 beaches along the way. There was also a sculpture exhibition from Tamarama to Bondi which was good and had a lot of abstract work. The weather was 29 degrees and there was a nice sea breeze. All in all a pretty epic day! For anyone asking yes I saw a few of the ‘the boys in blue’ Corey and a few I didn’t recognise but I wasn’t complaining they enhanced the view! Also I think every girl on the tour fell head over heels for our tour guide Connor!
Thursday was a really chilled day – I just feel I have been on the go everyday since I got here and have walked miles so the legs needed a rest!
Friday another chilled day! I went for a walk into town and signed up with some recruitment agencies before heading to a beautiful shopping centre where there are Christmas lights. It’s so weird that they are up and it’s so hot. My brain quite cannot compute it!
Saturday was spend chilling in the city catching up with friends. Fireworks at Darling Harbour in the evening followed by drinks at the coolest rooftop bar.
Sunday I went back to the market at The Rocks. I found this great stall called CICADA. All the chocolate is made in a factory which is free from gluten and wheat so it’s perfect. All chocolate here is branded with some kind of wheat product so to find this was awesome. It’s tastes so good!! The stall has been voted into the top 10 chocolates in the world and I can totally see why!
Hostel update: great roommates and new friends!!
