The Forgotten Gardens Of Easton Lodge
On 24th August 2017 by HelenLast weekend I took a trip to The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge, which are situated in Essex. I haven’t ever been before but mum suggested we go and it was a lovely day, so I was totally up for discovering somewhere new.
The gardens are so pretty and have such a varied history. The original site dates back to 1590, meaning the gardens have survived since the Tudor times. In 1866 the estate was inherited by Daisy who was only 3 years old when she inherited the property. Daisy later married Lord Brooke who was the Earle of Warwick, making her a Countess. The Lodge (of which only a small section remains) and gardens hosted many parties over the years and played host to royalty.
As mentioned above most of the Lodge does not exist today, but the gardens are in tact and maintained by volunteers. There’s an Italian garden, walled garden, croquet lawn as well as other smaller gardens and a treehouse. They are lovingly maintained and at times a little bit rugged around the edges, but it adds to the charm and age of the place. I enjoy walking in gardens, they have a very calming effect on me and this was no different.
The Bat Group had an information stand there and we got to see and learn all about bats and how to protect them. Firstly, bats are tiny and so adorable, secondly, and more importantly they are endangered. You need to make sure you follow the law when handling and looking after them. It was really interesting learning about these cute, little animals.
I hope you like the pictures:
