Visiting The Royal National Park
On 4th February 2017 by HelenYesterday I went to the Royal National Park and managed a 10k hike. It was absolutely stunning scenery and it was so nice to get out of the city for the day, even though my legs are killing me this morning.
We started with the intention of visiting the figure 8 pools however the tide was too high for us to safely reach them. The walk though was beautiful through bushland, over a beach and then scrambling very inelegantly over rocks and boulders. After it was decided the figure 8 pools were no longer and option we walked back across Burning Palms beach and headed on to the next part of our hike to Garie Beach.
The terrain was challenging to say the least, having to climb big steep steps up the side of hills, then across beaches then through more bushland. On the way we passed through South Era/North Era beach and Little Garie Beach. The whole way along the coast were these little hut like holiday homes. They were so cute but very isolated. It wouldn’t be somewhere I would want to stay, though I am sure if you needed to get away from everything they were prefect.
We stopped for our lunch at Garie Beach before heading back to the car, which meant walking back the way we came taking a good couple of hours. Once back at the car we stopped for coffee before heading back to the city.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is here. Most hostels run trips to the figure 8 pools but we were just lucky enough to know people that had a car and were kind enough to invite us along for the day!
(Please do not let the grey sky fool you. It was 26 degrees and super humid all day!)
